Let's talk motivation!

Coming into software engineering from customer service, and sales background gives me a bit of a unique outlook. I have seen and done, career pivots and I have to say that when retooling to get into a new profession it is a mountain to climb most times, which is why most people lock into a career and stay. They stay because they have garnered job security, financial stability, and history with their employer that would long-term grant promotions inside of the current infrastructure that they are working in.

That said, sometimes that is not an option and you figure out that you need to hop off of the horse midstride. You realize that either layoff’s are happening, the industry is slowly dying, or that generally, you are over working in the industry that you have been in for a good amount of time.

I have been there. I have worked for amazing bosses, and bosses that were literally so high that you couldn't work with them. I have had bosses that wanted to dictate, and bosses that wanted to mentor. I have been blessed to have some of the jobs that I had, and honestly would go back to a few of them just because of the effort that my boss put in. In fact, I have followed one boss as he has gotten promotion after promotion after I left the company that he still works for. The guy is a powerhouse of a salesman and trainer. He is responsible for essentially all of the west coast…
